kishan, one problem is is that it is hard to think of any positive, moral message that can be gleaned from most of the Biblical passages included in the quiz. Another is that many of the passages give every indicating of being intended literally, such as the passages about it being OK to beat your slave as long as he does not die after a day or two, or that if you pick up sticks on the Sabbath, you should be put to death. Please tell us in what those mean if not what they sound like? Likewise, what possible moral meaning, literal or not, could there be in passages that have God ordering the slaughter of entire cities of men, women, children, and even animals, or taking the virgin girls as spoils of war. Is there any literal or nonliteral meaning in that which is not disgusting and perverse?

    Yes to all answers

Another reason the “flood” did NOT happen : The tallest mountain was covered by water, 15 cubits above the mountain top. The temperature would have been about -36 C….. . Poor old Noah was almost worked to death stoking the wood stove in order to keep from freezing to death !
The pyramids did not experience the “Great Flood” nor did the Mayans of meso- America.
Please keep up the wonderful site…..
    Carpe’ Diem

They would’ve had a hell of a time building a fire or breathing with little or no oxygen that high up.

    • Greg says:

Vern, In all fairness, most young-Earth creationists do not believe the current tall mountains such as Everest even existed before the Flood. They claim that the earth was more level (with only hills) and that massive mountain building occurred during the Flood, due to “catastrophic plate tectonics” (CPT) that moved continental plates thousands of miles in a matter of months or weeks. This also helps them explain where all the water came from to cover even the highest mountains (if they were no tall mountains, its less of a problem). Of course, these claims have their own major problems. Besides conflicting with extensive geologic evidence that the plates have moved at only tiny rates (centimeters or less per year, over tens of millions of years), there is no mechanism that cause their assumed CPT or anything close, and even if there was, continents slamming across oceans in a matter or weeks would cause such massive friction and heat, gigantic tsunamis, and other catastrophic effects that neither Noah nor any of the animals on the Ark could have survived.

Just bumped into your site. I commend your efforts in trying to tell the “truth” Bible I read is not literal. You are no different from many Christians who read it literally. Literal or factual information only leads to such writings of yours which is a like a science try to confine in a box giving dimensions. Scriptures are just audio-visual symbols but one has to find what that mean to us in this life. When you become literal it is no wonder you get stuck trying to “explain” things rather than experiencing and doing good in this world. Good day Sir Nice effort

kshan, another problem is that even allowing symbolic, figurative, or metaphoric interpretations, believers often can’t agree on what the correct interpretations are, and why should it be so hard to know the correct meaning? In some cases there are dozens of different interpretations for the same passages, which is one reason there are scores of church denominations. This lack of clarity and consistency in many parts of the Bible seems hard to reconcile with a God who is perfect and thus could have clearly communicated all of these things if he wanted to.
