The ‘Miracles’ of Jesus

The Bible tells us of 37 separate incidents wherein Jesus performed miracles. Here’s a breakdown:

Raising the dead 3
Healing 22
Nature 4
Satan 3
Transformation 4
Other 1
TOTAL 37

Wouldn’t you think there would have been more written about these miracles if they had actually happened? Didn’t Jesus perform his miracles far and wide. Didn’t John say that the world couldn’t hold the books it would take to document all the miracles Jesus performed? AND YET… no mention of any of these miracles anywhere other than in the bible.

If you lived during Jesus time and saw him perform ‘miracles” and proclaim himself to be the Messiah and the King of the Jews, and God’s son, would you follow him and go out and spread the word like the (only?) 12 disciples did?

NOT SO FAST: There are some pre-requisities you  have to get through.

Here they are:

  1. Hate and leave your family
“If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple“
    Luke 14.26
  2. Be at variance with your family
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.Matthew 10.35,36
  3. Kill your family
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
    Matthew 10.21.
  4. Forsake everything
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. Matthew 19:29 (notice Jesus doesn’t mention forsaking husbands; he isn’t talking to women. He never did).
  5. Sell everything you own and give it to the poor
sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.–   Luke 18:18-22

AND…..

YOU SHALL RECEIVE AN HUNDREDFOLD AND SHALL INHERIT EVERLASTING LIFE!

WELL, WHAT’S HOLDING YOU BACK?

This is The Best Jesus Could Do?

Christians! Do you really want to hang your faith on this paltry set of “miracles”?

First of all, none of them happened. As we have shown time and again, the writings about Jesus were all stories meant to promote the authors’ beliefs about their savior, the king of the Jews.

A healing there, a raising from the dead there. Common, standard stuff in ancient times. See Jesus Is No Different Than Other Gods. If Jesus healed one leper, why did he not heal them all, then and forever more?

A real miracle would be for Jesus to eliminate all birth defects. When you can demonstrate a miracle like that, then you have something to hang your hat/faith on. Otherwise, it’s ho-hum with the miracles.

A Miracle! Jesus Statue Weeps

Faithful collect “Holy Water”, promote the church as a shrine.

Whoops – it’s only toilet water leaking through the statue. The person who discovered the faulty plumbing is charged with blasphemy and forced to leave the country. Read all about here.

How many of Jesus miracles would fall apart if subjected to the slightest examination? All of them.
